Holy Bible

Old Version of Casiodoro de Reina (1569), Review by Cipriano de Valera (1602)

Artist: Several

The books that comprise The Bible were not written at the same time, neither are representatives of a same time of the History. Between Genesis and Apocalypses (first and last book of The Bible) 14 centuries are estimated and according to the appreciation 50 authors wrote these books.
The Bible is divided into two, Old Testament and New Testament. The first one includes the Hebrew writings, Hebrew Bible, ie The Law, The Prophets and The Scriptures and the second one the Christian Writings, the Gospels: life and ministry of Jesus and the Apostolic Epistles.
When these books were written they were not divided on chapters and verses, these mechanism were just introduced during the Middle Age, in order to improve their study, their were divided on chapters around 1226. On the 13th century each chapter has been divided into seven sections. On 1558 an Italian friar divided the chapters into one sentence or complete phrase that he named verses. That year several editions of The Bible were published with verses and then a concordance was printed and his acceptance was general.
The Bible from the Greek “The Bible”, “The Books” was written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, the first book has been written around thirteen centuries before Christ: since that time until the creation on the printing on the 15th century, the sacred writings were taken from one generation to another through manuscript copies at the beginning made by Hebrew scribes at the synagogues and after, during the Christian era, the monk scribes were in charge to do these tasks on the Monasteries under the care of the Christian church.
As can be seen, this review it places us face a complex task that puts on alert and forces us to be very careful in our work and in front of our ambitions.
This edition of The Bible has no scholarly pretensions and has no intention or teaching vocation, it is just another of the many that exist and probably will in the future: it is just different. For our part we are pleased to have come to fruition with the edition.
